Clumping Non-Invasive Bamboos  Clumping bamboo is also called `non-invasive` bamboo because of its short `clumping` rootball and low occurence of `runners` which are special roots that extend under soil and sprout upward as new bamboo plants. Clumping bamboo is perfect for a yard with small growing area and where you would like to avoid having runners extend beyond your perimeter.
 BAMBUSA malingensis Attractive medium-size tropical produces many culms each year. Tolerates ocean breeze.   BAMBUSA membranacea Very straight loose clumps pruinose.  BAMBUSA multiplex Each node bears a large number of branches down to the culm base making a dense hedge. Hardiest of the Genus  BAMBUSA multiplex 'Alphonse Karr' Culms & branches bright yellow irregular narrow dark green longitudinal stripes new shoots reddish.  BAMBUSA multiplex 'Fernleaf' Leaves small in size with 10-20 2 ranked leaves.  BAMBUSA multiplex 'Golden Goddess' A dwarf form similar to 'Fernleaf' with larger leaves and yellowish culms.  BAMBUSA multiplex 'Midori Green' Does not have the apricot color on new growth found on 'Alphonse Karr'.  BAMBUSA multiplex 'Riviereorum' Solid culms and tiny leaves; similar to 'Fernleaf' but smaller more delicate looking.  BAMBUSA multiplex 'Silverstripe' Leaves white striped occasionally white stripe on culms Largest multiplex.  BAMBUSA multiplex 'Tiny Fern' A dwarf form of Riviereorum with leaves often less than 1' long.  BAMBUSA oldhamii Straight & erect culms wide leaves tight clumps.  BAMBUSA tuldoides 'Ventricosa' Can develop "pot belly" internodes.  BAMBUSA vulgaris 'Vittata' Golden culms with green stripes of varying width.  BAMBUSA vulgaris 'Wamin Striata' Light green culms striped with dark green.  BAMBUSA vulgaris 'Wamin' Dwarf with swollen lower green internodes.  BORINDA angustissima Young culms have white powder purple sheaths and narrow leaves.  BORINDA fungosa 'Chocolate' Shoots sweet culms used for weaving. Wide clumper arches.  DENDROCALAMUS asper Fast growing LARGE shoots high quality for food.  FARGESIA 'Rufa' Bamboo Select® This exciting new bamboo makes an attractive evergreen specimen or when grouped creates an excellent hedge. PLEASE NOTE: This bamboo will not survive in dry or desert climates. This bamboo is also not recommended for full sun.  FARGESIA nitida 'Eisenach' Ascending branches; culms tend to bifurcate.
